The following scenarios are common as whilst some organisations do appreciate their lab based personnel qualify for R&D Tax Credits there are significant other areas that also contain eligible activity: 

 

 

• A producer of household goods had not considered that the activity to develop a more environmentally friendly version of its existing product would be eligible for R&D Tax Credits.

 

 

• A developer and manufacturer of cleaning products did not consider that its eligible product development activity extended into development of manufacturing processes, improvement of manufacturing process capability and reformulations to reduce base material costs.  

 

 

• A manufacturer of flooring products had considered claiming for its product development team but had not claimed for its significantly larger process development team, increasing the potential claim three fold. 

 

 

• A developer of consumer products had not considered the capital expenditure items which were partly utilised for R&D purposes provided an opportunity for a 100% first year capital allowance deduction under Research and Development Allowances (RDAs).
